prologue
"Shall we?", said the Master Blacksmith. "Yes, lets get it done with!", said his apprentice. The Master Blacksmith created a piece of Portal Iron. a special piece of iron used for many tools... The Portal Iron glowed and then fell to the ground in front of the apprentice. He picked it up and asked his master: "Can I?", he asked. "Go ahead, you know what to do", the Master said. The apprentice smelted the piece and put the liquid into a key shaped mold. He then put the mold into a bucket of water, where it sizzled and bubbled. He waited a few minutes, when it hardened he took it out with tongs and placed it on the table. "Say the words, then duplicate it", the Master said. The plan was simple, yet well thought out, because as technology improved, kids and adults alike began to forget normal life, and paid more attention to the virtual world. By making five keys which held considerable value, they might in a way have better things to do. The plan was to also have a Mystery key, which might pressure people to research and find out what the secret of the key was. What the Master did not know was that this apprentice had an evil curse planned, and was ready to unleash it upon the future descendants. "All citizens of Brassville must hold five keys their whole life, these keys are the Key of Life, Emotions, Friendship, Thoughts, and Mystery and if they lose them they will face consequences, and have their life fall apart slowly, atom by atom!", the apprentice enchanted. It took a moment for the spell to sink in, and when the Master realized what had been done he was enraged. "You have made a terrible mistake, THEY WILL FACE CONSEQUENCES?, a disgrace to blacksmithing, you learned that we use powers for good only!", the Master roared. Our instructions told us specifically create a set of keys so people have a real meaning to life. "I realized what a great chance I had and I used it well", the apprentice said cheerily. "GET OUT, NOW!", the Master yelled. The apprentice took his set of tools, turned his back and walked out the shop. The apprentice was banned from the town and now wanted in Brassville for a huge reward, if he came back, no mercy shall ever be shown. The first mayor and the Master had a meeting in which the Master explained everything. "I realize the situation, you can trust me as mayor that I will do everything to keep everyone safe, but I must ask you to try to undo the affects", the mayor pleaded. The Master tried to undo the spell but nothing worked, the future inhabitants were going to have to live with the keys. He tried everything but used all his strength in attempting to destroy the Portal Key, he died thinking he destroyed it, but a piece still remained, the key regenerated and then disappeared. Few months years later people moved in but no-one ever saw the key again..

Chapter 1
Intro adam
Adam was a 12 year old kid, medium height, brown hair, and an odd stubborn yet kind stare. Yet he was open-minded and very kind. He had a mind that wanted answers no-one could answer. He had two siblings, his 10 year old sister Emily and his 16 year old brother Keith. His parents were not too stubborn parents, Mark was his father and his mother was Beatrice. They let him go anywhere during the day but made him go to bed at 9:00 sharp. They had this rule because as soon as it becomes dusk, weird things happen around their city. Adam and his family lived in Brassville, in the year of 3024. (Brassville was where Chicago used to be.) Brassville was a mildly high-tech city, even though robots didn't do your homework, and their weren't flying cars. Brassville was created so that refugees from a major technological war could seek shelter, and live a safe life. Adam had lived here his whole life, and so far so he didn't know what was beyond Brassville. His whole family was born here and raised here. Then there were the keys, every citizen got the keys at the age of 12, so Adam had his keys unlike his sister who was only 10. The keys were complicated things, there was The Key of Life, The Key of Emotions, The Key of Friendship, The Key of Thoughts, and there was the Mystery Key, which had no apparent purpose. Adam was very curious about the Key of Mystery. Not many other people were, they never stayed on that key, that key was junk to them. But Adam was the only one who really gave the keys a thought. Adam always wondered how five keys were made as soon as someone was born, he was curious about what happened if you lost one of the keys. His parents did not have any answers to the questions except for the last one, they said: "If you lose any of the keys Adam, you face very savage consequences", his dad explained. Adam then took the responsibility of keeping his keys safe on his 12th birthday, along with his presents. His brother Keith helped Adam out a lot, when he "misplaced" his keys sometimes. Today Adam came home from school, ate a snack, then realized that his Mystery Key in his pocket was glowing a light blue. He went to Keith's room and saw that he wasn't home, neither were his parents, Adam checked the time. It was 4:23 PM so he decided to write a note to his parents.
I went over to the blacksmith, be back soon,
Adam
Adam normally paid very little attention to his keys conditions, but this phenomena scared him in a way. His parents had told him if there are ever any scratches or dents in any of his keys, he should get them fixed by the blacksmith. Adam shuddered at the thought of his cousin who had dented his key of Emotions, and was too late to fix it. Now all he did was sat with a blank face, and unresponsive to anyone.
